“A truly creative musician is capable of producing, from his own imagination, melodies that are more authentic than folklore itself. Heitor Villa-Lobos wrote ten compositions for cello and piano between 1913 and 1917; these compositions show a complete absence of elements of Brazilian folklore, and were highly influenced by the aesthetics of European composers in vogue at the time in Brazil. This study presents a historical overview of Heitor Villa-Lobos’s early life, Heitor Villa-Lobos (Brézil - Brazil) Heitor Villa-Lobos was born on March 5th, 1887 in Rio de Janeiro. His mother, Noemia Villa-Lobos, would take care of the children and the house.His father, Raul Villa-Lobos, was an employee of the National Library and was an amateur musician.Every Saturday, Rio de Janeiro’s well-known musicians would get together at the Villa-Lobos house to play until The 12 complete compositions include original pieces by Charles Postlewate (Homage to Villa-Lobos, Variations on a Theme of Prokofiev and Improvisation on Green Dolphin Street), transcriptions of piano pieces by Claude Debussy (La puerta del vino and Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum), arrangements of Peruvian popular songs (Jose Maria and Virgins of the Sun) and new editions of standard repertoire Sacred choral music by Brazil’s most famous composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, performed by one of Hyperion’s best-loved recording groups. These works were written as part of Villa-Lobos’s grand plan to revitalize music education in his native country.
